This month, the BPS School Board hired Brett Bunch as the district's next superintendent.  Mr. Bunch will begin this new position staring July 1, 2022.  

More about Mr. Bunch: 

Mr. Brett Bunch is currently the Superintendent of the Newport School District. 

Brett initially pursued a law degree at the University of Arkansas before transferring and graduating from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a Bachelor degree in Communications and Marketing.

He put that degree to work upon graduation moving to Hilo, Hawaii where he was a television news anchor for KHBC for two years.

He moved back to the mainland and spent the next 20 years as a business executive before becoming an educator.  He has a Masters in Educational Leadership and a Specialist degree in Education from Arkansas State University and is currently working on his Doctorate in Educational Administration.

He taught AP US History and economics, was a high school principal and has served the past eight years as a Superintendent.  Brett is an innovator in education from on-site medical, dental, vision and mental health services for students and staff, to starting the only Conservation Academy in the country.  He was recognized as the Administrator of the Year for his work with mental and physical health for his students by the State of Arkansas.  He initiated an academic compliance counselor to increase the academic rigor and accountability of students during the COVID crisis.  His district has stayed ahead of the COVID crisis through strategic planning for technology, additional mental health services for students and teachers, and developing a partnership with T Mobile to meet the needs of those students without quality internet services at their home by providing them with hot spots. 

 Brett has been married to Cecilia for 31 years and has two grown children, Jami who is a stay at home mom and Brock who teaches Math and Science.
