Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are writing to share details regarding a security matter that occurred at Brookland High School this morning. Our priority is to keep you informed while ensuring the continued safety of our students and staff.
This morning, prior to the start of the school day, a 15-year-old male entered the high school building alongside students arriving for class. The individual remained on campus for approximately 12 minutes before exiting the building on his own accord. No incidents or altercations occurred during this time.
Upon being notified of the individual's presence, the District Security Team took immediate action:
· Tracking: Security personnel used campus resources to track the individual's movements.
· Safety Sweeps: Comprehensive searches were conducted throughout the campus to ensure no risks remained.
· Resolution: The individual was located off-campus shortly after, questioned by law enforcement, and has been officially issued a criminal ban from all district property.
Based on our investigation and the swift intervention of law enforcement, we are confident that no students or staff members were at risk during this incident. Safety remains our top priority, and we will continue to review our entry procedures to maintain a secure learning environment.
We appreciate the quick thinking of our security team and the cooperation of local law enforcement. Thank you for your continued trust in the Brookland School District.
Sincerely,
George Kennedy, Superintendent
